When is the best time in the month to move?

Stay away from end of months (particularly June, July and August) if possible. Movers are stretched beyond their limits at that time. If you must move at a month end, make your moving arrangements 6-8 weeks prior to your moving day target.

How far in advance should I schedule my move?

Since most ports of the world are experiencing congestion and there is limited space availability on vessels, we recommend booking 6-8 weeks prior to your moving day target.

Should I purchase insurance coverage for my items?

We urge all of our customers to purchase marine cargo insurance. This provides coverage for your goods amongst the few things that could potentially go wrong while your goods are in transit. The cost is fairly economical. Depending on the policy you elect, marine insurance covers loss or damage of your cargo while it is on the move - which is great because with the distance it will travel, there are a few potential things that can go wrong. Fortunately, these mishaps are not at all common, but unfortunately, accidents can happen and, when they do, they can be expensive.

It is similar to purchasing insurance on your home. Yes, chances are it is not going to burn down, you are not going to get burgled, and a flash flood is not going to damage your flooring or goods. But there is still a chance something could happen. If anything were to happen, you know you will be severely out of pocket and insurance will help with that. Something is not likely to happen to your goods - but covering your back with extended marine insurance is great for that extra protection.

We offer two types of insurance:

  1. Complimentary Coverage - Standard movers min liability coverage of 0.60 cent per pound per lost/damage item, provided at no additional charge and in accordance with federal regulations. However, this does not give you ample coverage.
  2. Extended Marine Insurance Coverage - All Risk Insurance - Available at an additional cost. Please contact your sales representative for more information.
    1. All Risk policy - Covers damages and loss on the following terms.
      • Loss - covers any item on the inventory list that is lost during the move, regardless if it was packed by a professional moving company or the client.
      • Damage - covers any damaged items packed by professional moving company. However, any damaged items packed by the client will not be covered.
    2. Total Loss policy - Available at an additional cost. Please contact your sales representative for more information. Covers for catastrophic events only, when the entire shipment is lost/damaged.
Should I tip the movers, and how much?

A rule of thumb for just about any tipping is that it is encouraged every time a service is offered. Tip is not mandatory; however, it is customary. There is no general rule for tipping, although it is customary to tip 7-10% of your total cost of your move. Considering how long they have spent packing and unpacking your items with care (maybe a flight or two of stairs was involved), it would be a nice gesture on your part to give each mover a tip. It is also common courtesy to offer your movers a meal, or at the very least, some bottled water or sports drinks throughout the day.

Are there any items you cannot move internationally?

Every country has an import restricted list. Most common restricted items are firearms, ammunition, drugs, chemicals and live plants. It is the client(s) responsibility to check with the destination country embassy/consulate for a complete list.

What are the available payment methods?

We accept Zelle, certified bank checks, cash, postal money order and bank wire transfers. We do not accept personal checks or credit/debit cards.

Are there Duties and Taxes to pay, and how much will they be?

Many countries allow used household goods and personal effects to enter without duties or taxes. Others are less lenient. This can vary depending on your personal status within your destination country. Our Customer Service Department will provide general guidelines regarding duties and taxes. Official information can be obtained by contacting the embassy or consulate of the destination country.

What about Customs?

Custom clearance is a required step of international moves for countries around the world. Customs officials exist to protect the laws and rules of their country and to collect duties and taxes in connection with their laws. Anyone planning a visit to a foreign country is personally responsible to honor the laws of the country to which he/she is a guest. Official information can be obtained by contacting the Consulate or Embassy of the destination country. Uplift Movers will give you guidance based on the practical experience gained from our daily involvement.

Can I ship my vehicle?

Automobiles can be shipped to any country that allows importation. Many of the developed countries make importation easy and inexpensive. Some countries discourage importation by assigning high taxes and duties. You will need to provide your original title, and in sometimes a bill of sale is required as well. Please contact one of our Customer Service representatives and they will be able to provide guidelines regarding shipping your vehicle overseas.

If we have damage(s), who should we contact?

We apologize for any damage(s) that may have happened during your move. Please contact our office and speak directly with our customer service representatives for additional assistance.

When is a full payment required?

A full payment is required prior to shipment leaving the U.S. Cost estimates can be made prior to shipping, but the actual cost cannot be determined until the dimensions are confirmed. Upon confirmation of the dimensions, you will be notified of the final price and asked to submit your payment before the shipment is released for shipping overseas.

What is transit time?

Transit time is the total time it takes for goods to get from Point A to Point B, measured in days, weeks and/or months. The mode of transport could be a boat, plane, train, truck, or a combination of multiple delivery modes. The duration of delivery depends on the type of the shipping you choose: sea, land or air.
